Web Development Edinburgh
Web development Edinburgh companies need tends to involve data, bookings or money – often all three. G2 Collective builds React and Next.js front ends, Supabase and Node.js back ends, and headless CMS or WordPress websites for financial, tourism and data-driven businesses in Edinburgh and across Scotland. We are a senior remote team in the EU, working in English on a day that overlaps with yours.

The Edinburgh landscape: finance, visitors and data
Edinburgh is the UK's largest financial centre after London, with a long tradition in banking, asset management, insurance and pensions and a growing fintech community around it. It is also one of Europe's great visitor cities: the August festivals, the Old Town, hotels, tours and restaurants create a tourism economy with sharp seasonal peaks. And the University of Edinburgh's strength in informatics and data science has made the city a natural home for data and AI companies.
Financial firms ask for secure investor or client portals, clear product websites and tools that present complex figures simply. Tourism and hospitality businesses need fast, multilingual websites connected to booking and availability systems, able to absorb festival-season traffic. Data companies want dashboards and web applications that make their models and datasets usable by customers. An overview of what we do is under our services.
Databases, APIs and content: the layer that does the real work
For data-centric products we build on Supabase, which pairs a full Postgres database with authentication, storage and realtime subscriptions – useful when a dashboard should update the moment new data arrives. Row-level security keeps each client's records separate at the database level. Node.js services handle custom processing, scheduled jobs and APIs for partners. We integrate CRM, payment providers, and booking, availability or property systems for accommodation, tours and lettings – the same skills we apply to our websites for property developers.
A tour operator, restaurant group or boutique hotel with a small team is often best served by WordPress: familiar, quick to edit and economical, as long as it is custom-built and kept updated. Organisations publishing in several languages, or feeding the same content to a site, an app and partner channels, benefit from a headless CMS. Sanity offers structured content and collaborative editing; Strapi is open source and self-hostable; Contentful and Kontent.ai provide the governance, localisation and workflow tools larger organisations expect.
Engineering practice: TypeScript, tests, CI/CD and honest use of AI
Our projects are run by senior engineers. We write TypeScript throughout, review every pull request, and maintain automated tests for the logic that matters most – calculations, permissions, bookings, payments. A CI/CD pipeline builds and tests each change and deploys it to staging. Documentation covers architecture, data models and operations, and at handover your team receives the repositories, infrastructure access and a walkthrough.
Edinburgh knows AI better than most cities, so we will skip the hype. We use AI-assisted, agentic coding workflows: AI coding agents that take on bounded tasks such as scaffolding a module, writing tests for an existing function, updating code after a library upgrade or drafting documentation. Senior engineers set the task, review the result in full and either accept, rewrite or discard it. Generated code passes through exactly the same review, test suite and CI checks as hand-written code. Delivery gets faster where work is repetitive; design decisions, security and accountability stay human.
Front ends: when we use React, Next.js, Angular and TanStack
Public sites that depend on search and first impressions – hotels, attractions, fund and product pages – are usually built with Next.js, which combines server rendering, static generation and image optimisation for fast, indexable pages. For logged-in applications we use React, and for large enterprise systems with extensive forms and strict structure, common in financial services, Angular remains an excellent choice.
Data-rich interfaces are where TanStack shines. Query keeps server data synchronised and cached; Table renders large, sortable, filterable datasets; Router and Start provide type-safe routing and a full-stack React foundation. We use them for analytics dashboards, reporting tools, booking management screens and client portals. Each build has performance targets based on Core Web Vitals and is developed to WCAG AA accessibility. For visual and UX design, see web design Edinburgh.
Should you hire Edinburgh web developers or work with a remote team?
Edinburgh has excellent developers, and strong competition for them from banks, scale-ups and the wider tech sector. Building an in-house team is the right move for a company's core platform, but it takes time. For a defined build, a modernisation project or additional capacity, a remote team can start sooner. G2 Collective is based in Poland, in the EU, without a UK or Scottish office. We are one hour ahead of UK time, our working days overlap, and the team communicates in fluent English.
We price in one of two ways – a fixed-scope quote once requirements are understood, or a monthly retainer with dedicated capacity – and we quote in GBP or EUR. What drives the figure is scope: data complexity, the number of integrations, user roles, languages, compliance and accessibility requirements, and design. Because we operate from a European base, senior engineering is typically more cost-efficient with us than at a comparable UK agency. Our contracts assign all intellectual property to you.
Support after launch and the companies we suit
A tourism site that fails in August or a portal that goes down at quarter-end is an expensive problem, so we plan support before launch. Our agreements include an SLA with response times, security and dependency updates, uptime and error monitoring, backups and performance tuning ahead of known peaks. Iterative development runs alongside: new features, reports, languages and integrations released in small, tested steps.
We are a good fit for Edinburgh fintech and data start-ups that need senior engineers quickly, for financial firms commissioning a portal or website, and for tourism and hospitality businesses that want a fast site wired into their booking systems. Review our projects, then book a technical call with one of our engineers to talk through architecture, options and a realistic plan.
