What Edinburgh businesses expect from a website
Edinburgh combines a long-established financial sector – banking, insurance and asset management – with a thriving technology community, world-famous festivals, year-round tourism, respected universities and a strong food and drink trade, whisky included. Businesses range from investment houses in the New Town and at Edinburgh Park to independent shops and restaurants in Leith and Stockbridge. Audiences are often international as well as local.
That mix sets a high bar. Financial and legal firms need restraint, clarity and rigorous accessibility. Hospitality and tourism businesses need atmosphere, fast mobile pages and straightforward booking journeys for visitors who may be browsing from another continent. Tech companies need to explain products and attract talent. In every case a generic template undersells the organisation – in a city this visually distinctive, people notice when a website has been thought about.
Bespoke design and development
We design from first principles: user research and UX planning, then UI design that gives your brand a confident, individual presence. Layouts are responsive by default, typography and colour are checked for accessibility, and we build with performance budgets so pages stay quick and score well on Core Web Vitals. The underlying structure – headings, URLs, internal links, structured data – is prepared for SEO before a single page is published.
Content is managed in WordPress or a headless CMS such as Sanity, Strapi or Contentful, whichever suits your team and publishing needs. We build e-commerce for producers and retailers, landing pages for seasonal campaigns, and websites for property developers with availability tables, floor plans and lead forms. For how we approach the code itself, see web development in Edinburgh.
Do you need an Edinburgh-based web design agency?
We are not in Edinburgh, and not in the UK at all. G2 Collective is based in Poland, in the EU, and works with British clients remotely. The time difference is one hour – we are ahead – so scheduling is never an issue. We hold discovery and design workshops by video, keep all design work in shared Figma boards, and publish staging links so you can test real pages on your own devices.
Local presence offers familiarity and the chance to meet in person. It does not guarantee senior attention; in some agencies the people you meet are not the people who do the work. With us they are the same: senior designers and developers join the calls and answer your questions directly. If your procurement rules or preferences require a Scottish supplier, we understand. If not, working remotely changes very little about the outcome.
How much does web design cost in Edinburgh?
As a guide, web design projects start from £1,200 (about €1,400) excluding VAT. Honestly: beyond the starting price it varies with the project, and we quote the final figure once we understand yours. The budget is driven by the number of templates, the CMS and hosting approach, integrations such as booking engines, CRMs or payment providers, whether there is e-commerce, how much content needs writing, translating or migrating, and how much animation and custom illustration the design includes.
What we commit to is a fixed quote, agreed up front in GBP or EUR, with a clear scope and payment stages. It will not creep. Our base in continental Europe means lower overheads, so we are typically more cost-efficient than comparable UK agencies without cutting corners on seniority or process. If your budget is set, tell us – we will say frankly what it can achieve and what should wait for a second phase.
How the project unfolds
Step one is discovery, where we get to know the organisation, its audiences and what success looks like. Step two is the sitemap and wireframes – the skeleton of the site. Step three is UI design, reviewed together in Figma. Step four is development of templates and CMS. Step five is content and SEO set-up, including redirects, metadata and analytics. Then come testing, launch and handover to a care plan.
We give timelines we can keep. A single landing page is the quickest kind of project. A company website takes about 12 working days, depending on size and how quickly feedback comes back. Larger platforms – booking systems, membership areas, multi-language builds – take longer and are usually delivered in phases, so that something valuable goes live early rather than everything arriving late.
After launch, and who we work well with
After go-live we can take care of hosting and maintenance, apply security updates, run backups and watch performance. We also provide ongoing SEO, from technical fixes to content, and analytics reporting that focuses on enquiries and bookings rather than vanity figures. Improvements are made continuously: seasonal pages ahead of the festivals, refined forms, new case studies – all part of our services.
We are a good fit for Edinburgh organisations that value craft and straight talking: financial and professional firms, hotels, restaurants and visitor attractions, drinks brands, technology companies and developers bringing new homes to the city. If you are planning a new website or rethinking an old one, book a call. We will discuss your goals and send a fixed quote and a realistic timeline.
